Bing Webmaster Tools

Definition

Bing Webmaster Tools is Microsoft's free service for site owners to verify a website, submit sitemaps and see how Bing crawls and indexes it.

You prove you own a site (by DNS record, meta tag or file upload, or by importing a site already verified in Google Search Console), then use the tools. According to Bing, you can submit a sitemap, which Bing processes at least once every 24 hours; use IndexNow to tell Bing about added, updated or deleted pages; and inspect a single URL to see its indexing status, crawlability and response codes.

In February 2026, Bing added an AI Performance report, in public preview. Bing says it shows how often a site’s content is cited as a source in AI-generated answers across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and select partner integrations, with the pages cited and sample “grounding queries”. Bing notes these figures reflect how often content is cited, not its position within an answer.

For a brand, Bing Webmaster Tools is basic hygiene: it confirms Bing can find and index your pages, and it gives you one first-party view of AI citations, for Microsoft’s experiences only. It does not show what ChatGPT says about you. Read Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow.
